ボイストレーニングでお世話になった田中博美先生のご推薦がきっかけです。
当時の歌の悩みとして、音程とリズム感の悪さが課題でした。
トレーニングだけではカヴァーできないものがあるかも、ということで、博美先生が教えてくださったのがトマティス・メソッドです。
博美先生の体験から、他にもメンタル面でも改善が期待できる（落ち込みづらくなる、など）と聞き、大変興味を持ちました。
とにかく、正確な音程で、自分が思うように歌えるようになりたい、というのが
一番でした。
自分の音楽性を高めることが、第一の目標でした。
正直、驚くほど変化が現れました。
まず、音楽ではないところで3点ほど。
音の方向性がわかるようになった
道を歩いていて、鳥や虫の声が聞こえたときに、昔は、「ああ、鳴いている」だけだったのですが、三次元的に、立体的にそれがわかるようになり、どの方向から聞こえるのかがわかるようになりました。あらゆる音の、方向がわかるようになったのです。
おかげで、例えば、セミを見つけるのが得意になりました。（笑）
子供の頃は、とても見つけられなかったのに、音の出所が、広い空間でもわかるようになったのです。
これは、音楽作成にも、役立っていると思います。
英語の聞き取りと発音がよくなった
特に勉強したわけではないですが、リスニング力がアップしました。日常会話までなら以前から話せたのですが、受講後、海外に行って、前よりも会話が成立していることに気付きました。加えて、発音が良くなりました。自分の声をモニタリングできるようになったので、歌を歌うときでも、話すときでも、圧倒的に発音がよくなりました。特に練習したわけではないのに、驚きました。声質も良くなったと思います。
気持ちが前向きになった
専門で心理学やヒーリングテクニック学んでいるので、一概にトマティスの効果、とは言い切れないかもしれませんが、受講の最中から、子供の頃の、何かスコンと抜けた、明るい気持ちが戻ってくるのを感じました。
一学期の期末テストが終わって、あと一週間で夏休み、というような、アノ頃の、屈託のない、楽しい明るい気分です。これは感動しました。すっかり忘れていた感覚でしたので。
音楽面での変化
音楽面での変化ですが、リズム感と音程がグンとよくなりました。
昔はピアノ弾き語りをしていると、テンポがグラグラしていたのですが、今は、テンポ82で練習したとしたら、本番も、メトロノームなしで、最後までほぼテンポ82で演奏できます。
音程も、当時の録音を聴く限り、前は聴くに堪えない音程だったと思うのですが、受講後は、歌のお仕事がもらえるようになったほど、上達しました。
その後も様々な飛躍の機会に恵まれ、歌の活動はもちろん、オリジナル・ミュージックである「ピアノレイキ」のCDや書籍、楽譜の全国出版に恵まれ、現在も活動しております。
さらに、トマティス・メソッドを体感したく、受講しました。
受講により、右耳で聴き取ることがいかに大切か、を体得することができました。
僕は大学より専門的に音楽を学びましたが、ピアノでも歌でも、技術が先行しており、
どう、声を出すか、どう、鍵盤を叩くか、ばかりを学びます。
モニタリングの力、つまり「聴く」力については、まず教えてくれません。
でも皮肉なことに、自分の音を聴くことが、実は上達の近道なんですね。
これはメンタル面の改善やヒーリングでも共通しています。
まずは、自分自身を見つめ、知ること。それが問題解決の第一歩なのです。
誰かのせいにしていても、解決方法は決して見つかりません。
自分自身を知ること、自分自身の声を聴くことが、あらゆる問題の解決につながるのだと、僕は思います。
トマティス・メソッドは、生き方、にもつながる、メソッドなのかもしれません。
